GETTING TO MONGOLIA

Air transport and Trans-Siberian Railways are the only transport options for entering Mongolia, since it is a landlocked country between Russia and China. The capital city Ulaanbaatar is the main hub for international arrivals.
The easiest way to get to Ulaanbaatar is by air:

The National flag carrier MIAT Mongolian Airlines operates scheduled flights from Berlin, Frankfurt, Moscow, Irkutsk, Beijing, Huhhot, Seoul and Tokyo to Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport, Ulaanbaatar all year round, Flights are also provided by 3 foreign airlines: Air China from Beijing, Aeroflot from Moscow and Korean Air from Seoul.

Train: Trans-Mongolian Railway runsbetween Beijing and Moscow, entering the Mongolian border points of Sukhbaatar (railway station on Mongolian-Russian border) and Zamyn Uud (railway station on Mongolian-Chinese border). It is expedition on itself from Moscow to Beijing through Ulaanbaatar taking 7925 kilometers. Travelers can join in Moscow, in Beijing and in Ulaanbaatar. It takes 5 nights from and to Moscow and 1 night from and to Beijing. Trans Mongolian Railway operates some 1110 kilometers of Trans Mongolian Main Line (inside Mongolia). VISA INFORMATION

Every foreign citizen traveling to Mongolia must be in possession of a passport valid at least for 6 months from date of entry into Mongolia. Most foreign citizens need a Mongolian visa to enter the country. Thirty-day tourist visas can be obtained at the Mongolian Diplomatic Missions abroad. For all information related to consular matters (e.g.: visas, etc.), please contact in person by telephone or e-mail the nearest diplomatic or consular mission of Mongolia. The following materials are required to obtain a Mongolian Visa:

1. Valid passport
2. One passport-size photo

4. A letter of invitation from a travel agency of Mongolia for tourists wishing to stay
over 30 days up to 90 days,
5. Visa fee

Visa fees

1. Single entry-exit visa - US$ 25;
for urgent service (within a working day) US$ 50;
this kind of visa is valid for three months from the date of issuing.
2. Multiple entry-exit visa valid for six months - US$ 65;
for urgent service (within a working day) US$ 130,
3. Multiple entry-exit visa valid for one year - US$130;
for urgent service (within a working day) US$ 260
4. Visa extension valid for one week - US$ 15;
for urgent service (within a working day) US$ 30;
US$ 2 per a day exceeding a week.
